7. Trust and respect

This must be emphasized: Be an example of living mindfully.

If you are simply reading a script because you have an agenda, your students will know that and they won’t trust you.

End your class on time.
This shows respect.

If you do need to extend a class, clearly express the reasons why you consciously chose to do so.
This builds trust.

As the teacher, you should have a solid practice of your own. If you cannot figure out your own motivations, that indicates a need to bolster your practice. Do not lead others in mindfulness if you do not live it yourself. In the trauma-sensitive research arena, there are cases coming up of improperly-educated meditation teachers re-traumatizing their meditation students.

Be as educated as you can be about how to hold a safe class.
